Running a business means pricing your products right, and that always comes down to one question – am I actually making money? A margin calculator answers in seconds, without your touching a spreadsheet.

Profit margin is simply how much of your selling price is actual profit, after covering the cost of the product. If your sell something for 1000 and it cost your 700 to make or buy, your profit is 300. That’s 30% margin.

The Formulas Behind the Calculator

You don’t need to remember these to use the tool, but knowing them helps you trust the numbers:

Gross Profit = Selling Price – Cost

Gross Margin % = (Gross Profit ÷ Selling Price) × 200

Markup % = (Gross Profit ÷ Cost) × 100

Ratio % = (Cost ÷ Selling Price) × 100

Margin and markup often get confused, but they’re not the same think. Margin is profit as a percentage of your selling price. Markup is profit as a percentage of your cost. On the same 300 profit above, your markup would be about 42.8%, even though your margin is 30%. Mixing these two up is one of the most common pricing mistakes small business make.
